Preparing For Your New Roofing Project: Three Things To Consider

Posted on

Adding a new roof can be a great way to add value and curb appeal to your home, and it can also prevent leaks and other damage to your home. If you are planning to take on this type of project, there are a few things you'll need to do to prepare. Here are some things you should consider before your contractors set to work installing your new roof.

Clear The Area Around Your Home

Your roofers will need to be able to access the roof from all angles, so be sure to take some time to clear the area around your home. This means removing tool sheds, piles of firewood, and other obstacles from around the home. You should also make plans to park your cars away from the home so your driveway is clear for trucks and tools. You'll also want to remove any antennas and satellite dishes on the roof.

Rent A Dumpster

Removing your old roof will result in a lot of construction debris, and your roofers will need someplace to put it all. You can arrange to rent a roll-off dumpster for the duration of your roofing project to help with this portion of the project. Have dumpster rental company place the unit as close to the home as possible, as this will make it easier for the roofers to toss materials in the dumpster without having to climb up and down the ladder throughout the day. Let the rental company know what type of debris you will be disposing of and how large your home is, as this will help to determine what size dumpster you need and how often it needs to be emptied.

Cover Your Furniture

If you are having a new roof installed because you currently have holes or leaks in the existing one, it's a good idea to cover the furniture on the top floor of your home. This can protect it from falling debris during the construction project. You can use plastic tarps or sheeting to protect your items. Consider removing fragile items from the rooms on the upper floor as an added precaution. You may also want to place caution tape over the doorways to rooms on the upper floors so no one walks in during construction, as this could result in an accident.

Talk to a roofer and a dumpster rental company, like ESP Dumpsters & Waste Services, before work begins so you can be sure that everything is in place for your new roofing project.
